A massive search effort remains underway in Japan for James “Weston” Higginbotham, a 20-year-old Alabama college student who was reported missing while traveling with his family.
Weston, an honors graduate of Spain Park High School, was last confirmed to be in the Kyoto area on May 29. His disappearance has prompted an extensive response from Japanese authorities as well as growing concern among family members, friends, and supporters both in Japan and the United States.

“This was an unimaginably hard day,” Nancy Higginbotham wrote in an update shared Wednesday evening. “Unfortunately, the authorities did not find Weston today.”
